Stick your stupid nose like a needle into that event and spew out a
venomous grape with a tone that could give anyone diabetes.
Maybe if you didn’t speak like a snail with asthma sloping up a side of a hill
Which I do believe is pretty slow
I wouldn’t treat you like an animal or a child
But maybe I wouldn’t even treat you like that if maybe you gave up babyfood.

I am all alone in the
Dark emptiness the
Doorknob rattles but
There is no nobody
There is no nothing
But me and the
Person outside
Rattling the door
Knob. But I am not
Sure who is out there. It is hopefully
My father or hopefully
My mother.
But it is not my mother or father
It is a burglar, trying
To come in.

Marit D. (Middle School, 2004-5) (p#119)

I look at the picture on my night table,

I look at the picture on my night table,
the round, happy face of a boy
conjured old feelings back into my head
like an advancing wave
I stepped back startled,
I had thought I had buried those feelings long before,
but it seemed that a part of my heart had gone
with that boy
gone into the darkness.
