Poem of the Day: 3 Jun 2005

Toxic gases seep through cracks

Toxic gases seep through cracks in the wall, but Carbon Monoxide is
the least of my worries.
Love and Hate have stronger smells and a deadlier scent.
But I don’t have a Love or Hate detector.
Neither of them can be blown away
by the wind,
nor can they get
tangled with the mist and fog.
You cannot move away
from Love or Hate,
for you contain them and
they contain you.
They sometimes drive you on
to do something you wouldn’t
(couldn’t)
be able if you hadn’t
inhaled so much.

Asher T. (Middle School, 2004-5) (p#253)
