Poem of the Day: 12 Jun 2005

Sad songs of summer and spring

Sad songs of summer and spring
Reverberate in the deep voices of the trees
And resound in high laments of the leaves.

They all mourn
For the time of growth and jubilation is over;
The trees understand and tuck themselves into their annual
                   hibernation
But not so with the proud leaves
They die with all the blaze and brightness.

Book shelves, book shelves,

Book shelves, book shelves,
More book shelves, tall trees towering over me, a forest of
Books, books,
More books, leaves falling from the tall trees into the children’s hands, eager
to be read.
Chairs, chairs,
More chairs, fields of grass to lie down and read the leaves in.
Libraries, libraries,
More libraries, forests of trees with leaves and long
grass fields.

Zachary M. (Middle School, 2004-5) (p#291)

Fall is the season that awakens the pencil

Fall is the season that awakens the pencil
And pens from their three months sleep.
The season that demands that
Children turn on their
Brains. You walk up many
Flights of stairs, you become
A machine walking up stairs
And learning like crazy.
