Reflections

If mirrors are reflections
and reflections are mirrors
and we constantly reflect
on what our mirrors tell us
we are reflected on by others
only as mere reflections of
substances that are not beings
and therefore make no impressions

A Christmas List (From a Bad Little Girl)

My Christmas List (Duh!)
1 lighter (I have to burn a few houses down)
2 bags of coal (I’m a bad kid)
3 cans of lighter fuel (just in case)
4 suitcases (I’m gonna need to run away)
5 pistols (I’m morbid; I need to kill people)
6 black cats (there needs to be some bad luck)
7 mirrors to break (more bad luck)
8 bikes (I need to get away somehow)
9 rolls of string (I need to tie the bikes together)
10 reasons I should go through with this (Why should I?)
 --signed, a BAD Little Kid

Poems

It is him
He is it
Two twisted
With shared blood
Spilling into the lines
Leaking out of him
Into the world
Where anybody
And everybody
Speculates
And critics
His life
For that’s what his poem is.

Liya R. (Middle School, 2004-5) (p#332)
