Poem of the Day: 4 May 2005

Tears, sadness, emotion.

Tears, sadness, emotion.
Grief-stricken people
Walk around the somber grounds.
The crowd of black walks away.

The Elephant and the Lion

Elephant walked along the path.
He was such a big animal but he smart as an ass
and along came lion who thought he was the biggest in town.
He looked at the elephant, and turned with a frown,
“How dare you be bigger than I.
I shall cut off your tail and take out your eye!”
The elephant grunted and walked away,
He didn’t hear a word that the lion had said.

The air hangs

The air hangs
like a light flimsy cloth
that is scented with flowers
and tree’s budding branches
a child’s cherry
lollipop
with just a slight odor of
exhaust
from the cars, trucks and taxis
passing underneath the
city’s spring sky.

Catherine C. (Middle School, 2004-5) (p#136)
