Poem of the Day: 21 May 2005

Every single

Every single
little step you take shakes the
          earth. A
             poor
             half dead
African tree is viciously shaken and
now it lays on the ground, and
thump, you lay down and relax.

Jena G. (Middle School, 2004-5) (p#202)

The radiator bled

The radiator bled
Unbearably hot steam
From the metal pipe, across the hall

Ruby S. (Middle School, 2004-5) (p#203)

A leaf

A leaf
Hangs trembling
A chilly wind
Gustering, blustering
Catches it in cold jaws
Fighting and biting.
And tears it free
Darting and dancing
It flies up, up
And falls spinning
Doooown
Into the midst of winter
Beneath ice
Crystal crackling
Under my feet
I bend down
Crumbling brown
A single leaf.

Diana M. (Middle School, 2004-5) (p#204)
