About The Lower School Library Collection
|
|
| The Lower School Library’s collection
contains approximately 15,000 volumes, and is continually updated and expanded.
The collection consists of picture books, I-can-read level books, beginning
chapter books, children’s fiction, folklore and fairy tales, poetry,
and non-fiction books (including extensive reference collections, biographies,
sports, art, music and architecture). The books are organized so that the
children are able to browse with increasing independency as they become
familiar with the library’s layout and collection, and as their reading
levels change. The fiction collection is color-coded in order to assist
in this goal. |

Non-fiction books are not color coded, but are arranged by
the Dewey decimal number. (Folktales and fairy tales (398.2) that are not
picture books are included in this section). The sports section is comprised
of both sports fiction (such as the Matt Christopher or Dan Gutman books)
and non-fiction, because it simplifies the selection process for the children.
