The Middle School Author Series
Here at Saint Ann's we have an incredible community of readers and writers in the middle school. In an effort to encourage them, the English Department and the Library have joined forces. We proudly present The Middle School Author Series.

We have a fabulous author coming to speak to each grade during the 2011-2012 school year:

 

2011-2012
8th grade: October 18th

 
  Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
 

Kami and Margaret visited the day Beautiful Chaos was released. It is the third book in their Beautiful Creatures series. Hearing them talk about their writing process was interesting and inspirational.

  Robin Wasserman

 

We are working on scheduling a date to have Robin visit. She is the author of the Skinned, Crashed and Wired featuring Lia Khan, a girl whose brain was downloaded into a computerized body after a terrible accident. This begs the question, "What does it mean to be human?"

5th Grade: February 7th  
  James Howe
 

We are really looking forward to James Howe's visit. We read his amazing book, Totally Joe, to the 5th grade every year. What a treat it will be to discuss Totally Joe, as well as Addie in the Middle, his latest title. James came and spoke to the 5th grade five years ago. He remains one of the most memorable speakers we have ever had visit.

 

4th Grade: October 25th  
  Cathleen Davitt Bell
 

Brooklynite Cathleen came and read to us from her latest book, Little Blog on the Prairie. We loved the book and learned a lot about life as a pioneer in the late 1890s!

20010 - 2011  

Leslie Stein Leslie conducted an illustration workshop in which she taught us how to tell a story in panels, plus gave us tips on how to draw a variety of characters. The workshop was open to any student who wanted to attend.

Joan Bauer read to the 7th grade
Joan's books include Hope Was Here, which won a Newbery Honor, and Rules of the Road, which was named by the American Library Association as one of the top young-adult books of the last 25 years. She read from her latest book, Peeled. We loved listening to Joan!

Misako Rocks Misako Rocks is the author and illustrator of Detective Jermain, Biker Girl and Rock and Roll Love. She came two years in a row to the Saint Ann's Library to talk to kids about growing up in Japan and to teach them how to draw their own manga.
