December, 2007: This is the second year Saint Ann's has worked with the "Hats for the Homeless" program, a New Jersey based group that distributes gift-wrapped hats at St. Xavier Church on West 23rd Street in Manhattan.
All students (120) enrolled in Middle School and High School costume classes make a hat. The project takes one class period and all the hats are made in a week.
At the end of the week, there are 120 hats. Saint Ann's faculty member Kate Hamilton started a charitable sewing project in 1999 with scarves. Since 2006, Coleen Scott has organized the hat project.
