Honors and Awards
Twenty-two percent of the Class of 1997 were National Merit, National Achievement, National Hispanic Finalists or Commendation Winners. Three students were named Awardees in the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts Recognition and Talent Search (ARTS). One Gold Medal and three Silver Medals were received in the highest level of the ACL/NJCL National Latin Exam, and one student received a Green Ribbon in the highest level of the National Greek Examination. A Gold Key and a Silver Key were received by members of the Class from the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards of 1997 as well as three Gold Keys and eight Silver Keys from the New York City Scholastic Art and Writing Awards program. One member of the Class was awarded High Honors in the New York Science Talent Search, one received a New York State Merit Scholarship for Academic Excellence, one won the New York City English-Speaking Union's Shakespeare Competition, three were distinguished in the Nancy Thorpe Poetry Contest, two students were selected as finalists in the New York National High School Film Festival, and two were members of a piano quartet that was presented by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center at the 14th Annual Young Musicians Concert at Alice Tully Hall.
Advanced Placement
Eighty-five Saint Ann's students took a total of 126 Advanced Placement Examinations. 92% of the students taking these examinations were in the ninth to eleventh grades. Scores of three or above (qualified to extremely qualified) were attained on 92% of the exams. 52% of the scores were fours and fives. Ten members of the Class of 1997 were recognized by the College Board for having achieved outstanding academic performance: Two were named AP Scholars with Distinction, four were named AP Scholars with Honor, and four were named AP Scholars.
NB: AP courses, as such, are not offered at Saint Ann's.
